Scott McConnell - Canada
Scott McConnell is a dynamic and outgoing musician, skilled in both steelpan and percussion performance. His diverse and eclectic interest in learning many styles of music have led him to a portfolio career that includes performances with the Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra, the Harper College Orchestra, South East Steel Orchestra, and Starlift Steel Orchestra, to name a few. His love of music began at a very young age, and quickly spread to as many different styles of music as he could take in, learning as many different percussive instruments as he was able to get his hands on. As an advocate and representative of the steel pan, Scott has established himself as a dedicated performer, acting as a member of the NIU Steelband, and traveling to both St. Vincent and Trinidad to perform in there respective Panorama events. Scott is also one of the founding members of Pastiche Steel Ensemble, an active steel band in the Chicagoland area, focusing on steelpan education and development. By way of background, Scott has achieved both undergraduate and masters degrees in percussion and steel pan performance from Northern Illinois University, studying with world-renowned pedagogues Cliff Alexis, Robert Chappell, Greg Beyer and more recently with legendary steelpan performer and educator Liam Teague as he worked to receive a performers certificate in steelpan studies. Scott is currently finishing up his second Masters Degree from Northern Illinois University in recording arts. With his time in the program Scott has acted as the Graduate Assistant leading a crew of student workers to maintain the schools recording services department.
