Matt Filosa is a freelance percussionist, composer, and arranger currently residing in Tallahassee. In the summer of 2014, Matt launched his new Marching Arts design company, Synced Up Designs. Completing his final class work towards his Doctorate in Percussion Performance from The Florida State University in the spring, Matt is currently ABD. In the fall, Matt will return for his forth year teaching and writing for the Marching Chiefs Drumline. Matt recently joined the Music City Mystique and Spirit of Atlanta staff as an educator and sound designer. Recently, Matt went on a national tour with the Florida State percussion ensemble, which concluded with a showcase concert at the Percussive Arts Society National Convention. In the summer of 2012, in Wichita Falls Texas, Matt launched his new professional stage show, "Nebulas". From 2009-2011, Matt was the Assistant Band Director and Percussion Coordinator at Rider High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. During this time, Matt Created and organized the popular "Red River Drumline Festival" showcasing the UNT drumline and Paul Rennick. Additionally, Matt created the popular percussion stage shows “Electronica” and "Dreamscape". For the first time in Rider High Schools history, Matt's percussion ensemble received a one rating at District and State UIL. Matt earned his Bachelor's degree In Music Performance from the University of Florida in 2007. He earned his Master’s degree in Percussion performance from the University of North Texas in 2009. Matt marched three years of Drum Corps with the Magic of Orlando (2004) and Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps (2006 , 2007). Matt has preformed with a variety of ensembles including the Florida State Percussion ensemble, Mas n’ Steel, Florida state University Orchestra, Florida State Symphonic Band, Florida State Wind Orchestra, UNT percussion ensemble, UNT wind symphony, UNT new music ensemble, JOFIBO, FBC orchestra, UF wind Symphony, UF orchestra, UF marching band, UF steel drum band, UF percussion ensemble, Gainesville County Orchestra, Electronica, Dreamscape, and Nebulas. Matt earned 2nd place two years in a row performing original compositions at the PAS international marimba competition. He has written and arranged for the University of Florida, University of North Texas, Florida State University, and various other groups and schools across the country. Matt has performed on several professional recordings, recently featured and Dr. Omar Carmenates new CD Gaia Theory, released by Rattle Records. He has also performed at WASBE in Singapore and Ohio, CBDNA, TMEA, FMEA, and PAS on several occasions. Matt is endorsed by Innovative Percussion.
