Touring Artist for Urban Gateways - Fall 2013 to present
As a part of the Urban Gateways Touring Artist team we travel to different schools around the Chicagoland area allowing the children to engage in the rhythms of the Caribbean and learn about the history and development of the steelpan from its roots in Trinidad and Tobago to an internationally recognized instrument. Travelling to several different continents through different musical genres, students learn about the versatility of the steelpan and the indigenous music of cultures around the world. Demonstrations about the tuning and building of a steelpan gives students an idea about the inspiration and grass roots science involved in the developing this instrument from a discarded oil barrel or steel drum to a chromatically tuned instrument.

Steelpan is one of the youngest acoustic instruments developed to date. This fact makes education a must for our audiences so they can understand the artistic and musical possibilities of this melodic percussion instrument. Our concerts usually feature a brief summary of the history of steelpan, but we also like to perform thorough educational sessions when possible. Throughout the year we plan to schedule engaging hands-on steelband workshops and educational programs at schools and universities. If you would like Pastiche to come to your school, university or even a corporate event contact us. We look forward to hearing from you.
